CHL Names Players of the Week

Colorado Eagles right winger Greg Pankewicz has been selected as the Central Hockey League's Bauer/Nike Player of the Week, while netminder Ken Carroll of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs has earned Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week honors.

Pankewicz and his expansion Eagles teammates took seven of eight possible points in four games last week, with the right winger picking up a total of five goals and five assists. He did most of his damage in wins over Wichita (6-5 SO) and New Mexico (8-2). Against the Thunder on November 5th, he enjoyed a four-point outing, including both a hat-trick and the game winning goal. Two nights later, he racked up two more goals and added three assists in the win over the Scorpions. Pankewicz currently sits tied for second in the CHL scoring race with 15 points in his 11 games played, and has recorded two game winning goals and one power play goal.

Carroll, the 2000-2001 recipient of both the WPHL Rookie and Goaltender of the Year awards with Bossier-Shreveport in the then Western Professional Hockey League, had two outstanding performances the past week in Mudbug wins. He recorded his second shutout of the season by making 33 saves in a 3-0 win over visiting Fort Worth on November 6th, then made 17 stops in a 3-2 win at Fort Worth two evenings later. The Oil City, Ontario native's fine play this week has lowered his goals against average to just 2.12, and his save percentage to 92.9.
