Oilers Shutout by Thunder in Season Series Finale

Tulsa Oilers News Release

WICHITA, KS - The Oilers threw everything they could muster at Adam Russo on Friday night, but nothing got past the Wichita goaltender. Russo turned aside 42 shots in a 3-0 Thunder win as the Oilers were kept off the scoreboard for the first time this season.

Wichita forward Matt Robinson broke a scoreless tie with just over five minutes to play in the second period when he slid the puck between the legs of Oilers netminder Steve Christie. With under a minute left in the middle frame, Robinson struck again. Wichita's leading goal scorer snapped a puck past Christie to give the Thunder a 2-0 edge heading into the third.

Christie was forced into action when starting goaltender Ian Keserich left the game after he was cut above the knee by a skate. Christie stopped 14 shots in the final 15 minutes of the second period, but the Oilers found themselves trailing despite firing 21 shots on goal, their highest total for one period this season.

Russo, who recorded his third shutout of the season, stymied the Oilers on ten more shots in the third. Justin Sawyer added an empty net goal as Wichita won its sixth straight game. Tulsa finished the 11-game season series against the Thunder with a 4-6-1 record and dropped their third straight overall.

The Oilers begin a six-game homestand tomorrow night at 7:35 p.m. against the Evansville Icemen. It's the annual Pink In The Rink Night and the Oilers will be wearing special pink jerseys to be auctioned after the game to benefit women's and children's cancer charities around the Tulsa area.
