February 10, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Top Three

1.) Rivals Meet One Last Time- The Tulsa Oilers will look to put an end to the Wichita Thunder's five-game win streak on Friday night when the two rivals meet in Wichita for the final time during the regular season. It is the 11th meeting of the season between the two teams with Wichita leading the head-to-head record with six wins. The Thunder have won back-to-back games and five of the last six games in the series. Since a 4-1 loss to Tulsa on home ice on Nov. 19, the Thunder have gone 13-2 at the INTRUST Bank Arena.

2.) Rare Territory- Missouri Mavericks forward Sebastien Thinel is close to joining a club that has a very limited membership of just six people and that is the 700-point club in the CHL. The veteran in his ninth CHL season has played in 546 career CHL games scoring 248 goals with 451 assists. Last night, Thinel had one assists pushing him to 699 CHL points. Thinel has won the CHL's regular season scoring championship two times (2009 and 2011) and was named the 2009 CHL Most Valuable Player. Missouri defeated Rapid City 4-2 and moved into a tie with Evansville for second place in the Turner Conference. The Mavs and Rush will go at it again on Friday night with Thinel needing just the one point to join the elite club.

3.) Thursday Rewind- In a special early start game (11AM), the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees defeated the Laredo Bucks, 5-3 in Laredo. Dan Gendur scored two goals and had an assist and the Bees power play scored three times in seven chances. In Dayton, the Bloomington Blaze won for the second straight time thanks to a goal and an assist from Luke Popko and 33 saves from Zane Kalemba. In the battle for first place in the Berry Conference, the Wichita Thunder won for the first time ever in Allen, 4-2, thanks to a four-goal third period and two goals apiece from former American Dustin Donaghy and Jarred Mohr. Wichita now leads Allen by three points at the top of the conference. Finally, in Rapid City, the Mavericks defeated the Rush 4-2 thanks to a three point night from Andrew Favot (1-2=3) and 37 saves from Charlie Effinger. The Mavs are now tied with Evansville for second place in the Turner Conference.

Inside the Numbers

9: The number of points that Quad City rookie Jared Brown has scored in his last six games registering six goals and three helpers. On the season, Brown has 46 points (18-28F) in 44 games taking over the league lead in scoring among rookies. Impressively, Brown helps fuel wins for the Flock as he has 37 points (14-24=37) in the Mallards 25 wins on the season.

On the Fly

-Texas and Allen will become very familiar with each other over the final six weeks of the season playing seven times starting with Friday's game in North Richland Hills. The Americans have won three of the first four meetings. The two rivals have combined for 189 penalty minutes in the four games which is out of character for the Brahmas who are last in the league averaging just under 13 minutes a game but Allen is second in the league averaging close to 22 minutes per game.

-Fort Wayne forward Chris Auger has scored a goal in three straight games tying him with Bobby Chaumont for the team lead (18 goals). Amazingly, all three of Auger's goals during his streak have accounted for the game winner giving him four game winning goals on the season. The first-year Komet has five goals and five assists over his last six games.

-The Quad City Mallards are hoping to be starting a winning trend as they have won back-to-back games as they head into Fort Wayne to play the Turner Conference leading Komets on Friday night. Fort Wayne has won four straight in the season series against the Flock. The Mallards are sitting with 51 points, one behind Rapid City for the fourth and final conference playoff berth. After Friday's game, the Mallards head home to play a pair of games against Arizona.-Allen placed All-Star forward Bruce Graham on the injured reserve list this week with a lower body injury. Graham is third in the CHL with 58 points (25-33=58) and tied for second with his 25 goals.

-The Rapid City Rush earned points in six of their seven games on their recently completed road trip thanks to a 4-1-2 record (10 points). Rapid City returned home last night and lost to Missouri 4-2 despite being nearly unbeatable on home ice in recent weeks going 10-1-1 in their last 12 home contests prior to last night's loss. Forward Shawn Limpright had quite a road trip scoring points in every game (5G, 5A). Goaltender Tim Boron went 2-0-1 on the journey allowing just four total goals in those three decisions. Limpright has the longest active point streak in the CHL notching points in nine straight games (13 points).

-The Missouri Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the CHL going 14-3-1 since Dec. 29 moving back up near the top of the Turner Conference. The Mavs defeated Rapid City last night for the second straight time and play in Rapid City again on Friday.

-Arizona defenseman Tyler Butler has scored three goals in his last five games (two of them on PP) and has taken over the lead among all d-men with six power play goals on the season.

-The Bloomington Blaze have earned points in three straight games and four of their last five going 2-1-2 over that stretch. The Blaze are 15-14-2 since their 1-10-2 start to the season. The Blaze are just two points behind Dayton for sixth place in the conference. Bloomington hosts Arizona on Friday and Fort Wayne on Sunday.

-After a 10-2-2 month of January, the Evansville IceMen have gotten out of the blocks slowly in February winning just once in four games (the win came in a shootout). The IceMen host Dayton on Friday and then make a long journey to Tulsa for a showdown on Saturday.
