Tulsa Oilers News Release

ALLEN, TX - A three-and-a-half minute stretch of the second period proved costly for the Oilers on Tuesday night as the Allen Americans scored three unanswered goals en route to a 3-2, series-clinching victory.

The Oilers had difficulty staying out of the penalty box in the first period but did not succumb to the power play pressure of the Americans. Allen enjoyed three opportunities on the man-advantage and outshot the Oilers 13-6 over the opening 20 minutes but the first frame ended in a scoreless draw.

On a Tulsa power play in the second period, an apparent goal by Phil Brewer was waved off but the Oilers were undeterred. After a shot from Brewer caromed hard off the back boards, the quick stick of Drew Fisher poked the past Americans' goalie Joel Rumpel to give Tulsa a 1-0 edge. Allen's string of success started at 10:14 of the middle frame as Dyson Stevenson snapped a shot off the glove arm of Tulsa netminder Kevin Carr that bounced across the goal line to level the contest. The Americans surged ahead at 12:23 when Ian Schultz, back in the Allen lineup after 14 games with the Iowa Wild (AHL), re-directed a point shot from Justin Baker underneath the crossbar. Chad Costello capped off a run of three goals in 3:38 with a power play tally at 13:52 to give the home team a 3-1 cushion. A loose puck in front of Carr squirted to the tape of Costello who fired into an open net as Oilers' defenseman Nathan Lutz dove across the goal line to attempt a save.

The Americans, who went 37-2-3 during the regular season when leading after two periods, clamped down on the Oilers in the third period to preserve their lead. Fisher's second strike of the night with 2:18 remaining in regulation gave the Oilers renewed hope but the clock ticked down before the visitors could equalize.

Rumpel won three of Allen's four games in the series and made 27 saves on Tuesday night while Carr turned aside 31 shots in the loss. Fisher, who recorded his second multi-goal game of the series, finished the playoff run as the Oilers' point leader with five goals and an assist. Brewer notched his first career playoff points with a pair of assists while Adam Pleskach, Tulsa's leading goal scorer in the regular season was forced to miss the game due to an undisclosed upper body injury.

The Oilers played in a total of 77 games during the 2014-15 campaign and set a new franchise record for games played in a single season. In their first season as a member of the ECHL, the Oilers advanced to the Kelly Cup Playoffs and posted 37 wins, the second-highest total of all-time.
