CHL Tulsa Oilers

Oilers Rise up on the Road for 4-2 Win over Cutthroats

March 2, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

After a scoreless first frame, CHL leading scorer AJ Gale blasted a slap-shot past the glove of Madolora to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. Just four and a half minutes later the Oilers answered when Jason Weeks moved in all alone on Denver goalie Kieran Millan. Weeks deked and tucked the puck past Millan's outstretched pad for his second goal of the season to level the contest at 1-1. Late in the second period, Cutthroats defenseman Adam Smyth crumpled Oilers forward Gary Steffes with a knee-to-knee collision. Steffes did not return to the game and Smyth was given a five-minute kneeing major and a game misconduct.

With a wealth of powerplay time to start the third, the Oilers cashed in. Jeff Buvinow, who scored for the fourth straight game, gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead and just two minutes later Michel Beausoleil tipped in Drew Fisher's shot to swell the Tulsa lead to 3-1. Aaron MacKenzie pulled Denver within one at the 16:21 mark, but Madolora made several sensational stops to preserve the Oilers lead. Drew Fisher capped off the contest with an empty-netter at 19:17 to give the Oilers just their seventh road win of the entire season.

Denver outshot Tulsa 43-23 but were foiled all night by Madolora who improved to 12-12-2 on the season.

Ryan Menei, who finished with three assists, was one of five Oilers players to post multiple points.

The Oilers and the Cutthroats will conclude their weekend series tomorrow night at the Coliseum at 8:05 p.m. CST.
