Oilers Fall Short Against Killer Bees

November 5, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

HIDALGO, TX - The Tulsa Oilers fell behind early Saturday night against Rio Grande Valley and the Killer Bees skated off their home ice with a 6-3 victory for their third straight win in front of 3,435 at State Farm Arena.

Tomas Klempa, just activated off the injured reserve list, was a pest for the Oilers defense all night long. Klempa opened the scoring on the powerplay at the 3:51 mark of the first period and finished the night with two goals and assist. Just a minute and a half later, Aaron Lee scored his fifth goal of the season and put Rio Grande in front 2-0.

The Bees started the second period quickly with a goal from Jason Dixon just one minute into the middle frame. Tulsa started its comeback with a wraparound goal from Michel Beausoleil and powerplay tally from Mike Ullrich but couldn't sustain the momentum and surrendered a late goal to Brandon Campos near the end of the second period.

Rio Grande extended its lead early in the third when Klempa struck again on the powerplay. Ullrich pulled Tulsa back within two with his second goal of the game and fourth in the last two games, but Rio Grande capitalized on another powerplay late in the third to slam the door on the Oilers hopes of completing the comeback.

The Oilers penalty was red hot coming into the game with 26 kills on 28 opposing powerplays, but the Bees went 3-4 with the man advantage and ended up with 43 shots on goal. Ian Keserich made 37 saves in his 7thconsecutive start for the Oilers while Patrik Levesque skated for Tulsa after missing the last four games.

Tulsa concludes its south Texas road trip with a 1-1 record, and falls to 4-3 overall. The Oilers are back home Tuesday night at 7:05pm to take on Rapid City.
