Quad City Mallards News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - Bryan Hogan made 47 saves and Brett Lutes's 5-on-3 power play goal early in the third period stood up as the game winner as the host Dayton Gems edged the Quad City Mallards 2-1 Saturday night.

Lutes, who also picked up an assist, drove the puck home from the top of the right wing circle to stretch the Gems' lead to 2-0 just 53 seconds into the third.

The Mallards were on the power play when Eric Giosa's fine solo rush brought Quad City back within one at 14:41 of the third, but the Mallards were unable to produce a late equalizer despite throwing 22 shots at Hogan in the final period.

The Gems had first grabbed the lead when Brandon Naurato's shot from the right wing circle was deflected past Mallard goaltender David McKee at 15:40 of the first period.
