Oil Kings Take Hockey Hooky Victory

Edmonton, AB - It was a winning afternoon all around as the Edmonton Oil Kings pulled out a 3-1 win over the visiting Kootenay Ice on Tuesday afternoon at Rexall Place. A crowd of 8850 including over 5000 young Edmonton area students took part in the third Annual CN Hockey Hooky. Oil Kings scoring leader Michael St.Croix notched his team leading 34th of the season, the game winner, as well as an assist to bring his season total to 82 points. St.Croix currently sits fifth in the WHL scoring race with 19 games remaining. Top Prospect Griffin Reinhart showed up big against his brothers Max and Sam of Kootenay as he posted a two point night with a goal and an assist as well. Rhett Rachinski would score his 17th of the season into an empty net to make it a 3-1 final.

Edmonton's impressive home record moves to 23-4-1-1 while their overall record goes to 35-12-2-4 for a total of 76 points. The Oil Kings retain top spot in the Eastern Conference by six points over the Moose Jaw Warriors and are now just two points shy of the WHL leading Kamloops Blazers in the race for the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy.

The Oil Kings will now set out on a six game road trip starting tomorrow in Calgary against the Hitmen. Edmonton will then begin the long trek through the B.C Division with a pair of games this weekend against the Prince George Cougars. Next week will then see the Oil Kings take on the Western Conference leading Kamloops Blazers before rounding out their road trip with games in Kelowna and Vancouver. The Kings will return to the friendly confines of Rexall Place on Family Day, February 20th as they welcome Emerson Etem and the Medicine Hat Tigers.
