Spokane Chiefs News Release
Brenden Kichton's goal on February 6th versus Seattle was his 41st career, passing Sean Gillam's mark for most in franchise history for a defenseman. Kichton's goal was with the man-advantage on a slap shot from the right circle and gave Spokane a lead they would never give back to Seattle in a 7-3 victory.
The six games and nine days prior to Monday night Kichton sat in a three way tie with former teammates Jared Cowen and Jared Spurgeon for fourth place on the list. Goals in back-to-back games on January 28th versus Kootenay and the 31st at Seattle pulled him even for second place with Bryan McCabe with 39. He equaled Gillam's mark on February 4th at Kootenay and broke it on Monday versus Seattle.
Twenty-three of his 41 career tallies came last season when he recorded 81 points, the second most in franchise history by a blueliner, just one point short of McCabe's single season mark set in 1993-94. The 19-year-old New York Islanders draft pick has scored 13 goals this season and is leading the Chiefs in scoring with 54 total points. That total is also tops for all WHL defenseman, a list he finished in third overall last year. He is one of 10 Chiefs with double digit goals this year.
Kichton is fifth all-time in career points for Chiefs' defensemen with 163, seven short of Spurgeon in fifth place.
