Oil Kings Sign Forward Matthew Williams to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed 2008-born forward Matthew Williams to a Western Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement, the Club announced today.

Williams, 15, was originally drafted by the Oil Kings in the fourth round, 79th overall, of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

"We are excited to be officially adding Matthew to our organization," said Oil Kings Director of Scouting, Michael Chan. "As a prospect, Matthew has shown excellent work ethic and a distinct presence through the middle of the ice. He has demonstrated a commitment to improvement and makes others better with how hard he is willing to work. Those are traits that we expect to continue to drive his development.

"As an organization, we would like to thank the Leduc Junior Athletic Club and the Leduc Minor Hockey Association for the parts they have played in Matthew's development thus far."

Last season, the Leduc, AB product skated in 32 games with the U15 Leduc Oil Kings finishing the season with 62 points (19G, 43A) to lead his team in scoring and finishing eighth in league scoring.

This season, the 6-foot, 171-pound forward has picked up three points (1G, 2A) in five games with the U18 Leduc Oil Kings. This week, he will take part in the WHL Cup as a member of Team Alberta.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is tomorrow, Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 P.M. when they take on the Red Deer Rebels at Rogers Place.
