October 16, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

The best 2008-born players in Western Canada are set to take part in the WHL Cup in Red Deer, and the Brandon Wheat Kings will be well represented at the event.

Four Wheat Kings prospects will wear their home province's colours for the WHL Cup. This includes the first three selections the Wheat Kings made in the most recent WHL prospects draft.

First round pick Jaxon Jacobson will represent Team Manitoba at the tournament. He was selected 5th overall in the draft after leading the U18 AAA Brandon Wheat Kings in scoring despite playing a year advanced and being the youngest player in his league. He also suited up in three exhibition games for the Wheat Kings and posted five points.

Also representing Team Manitoba is goaltender Dylan McFadyen. After playing last season with the Winnipeg Wild in U15AAA, McFadyen has joined the Interlake Lightning for his first U18 campaign. He has a .932 save percentage through his first two games.

First round pick Giorgos Pantelas, taken 19th overall, is the Wheat Kings' representative for Team BC. After playing with the RHA Kelowna U15 program last season, he moved up to the U18 squad this year where he has one goal in four games. He also played his first two exhibition games as a Wheat King in September.

Lastly, second round selection Nigel Boehm will suit up for Team Saskatchewan. Boehm is in his first season of U18 hockey with the Saskatoon Contacts.
