Four Pats Prospects Named to 2023 WHL Cup Rosters

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League, in partnership with BC Hockey, Hockey Alberta, Hockey Saskatchewan and Hockey Manitoba, announced Thursday the official rosters for the 2023 WHL Cup presented by FPS Payment.

Four Regina Pats prospects have been named to WHL Cup rosters, which include Cohen Klassen (Team Saskatchewan), Tegan Kurtz (Team Manitoba), Zach Lansard (Team Manitoba) and Carter Haney (Team Manitoba).

Cohen Klassen - Team Saskatchewan

Klassen, 15, currently has eight points (4G-4A) in five games this season with the Warman Wildcats U18 AAA program. Signed by the Pats on June 1, 2023, the Martensville, Sask. product was drafted by the Pats in the third round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. Last season, the left-shot forward tallied 61 points (32G-29A) in 24 games with the Martensville Marauders, leading his team in goals, assists and points in 2022-23. His 32 goals were T-10th in the SAAHL U15 league.

Tegan Kurtz - Team Manitoba

Kurtz, 14, is currently playing for the Winnipeg Wild U18 AAA team, recording no points. Last season, Kurtz produced 39 points (13G-26A) in 31 games in with the Winnipeg Wild Gold U15 AAA club. The Winnipeg, Man. product was drafted by the Pats in the 11th round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

Zach Lansard - Team Manitoba

Lansard, 15, has recorded two assists in one game to begin the season with the RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg U18. The Ste. Anne, Man. product was signed by the Pats on June 2, 2023. Last season, Lansard scored 41 points (17G-24A) in 30 games with RHA Winnipeg U15, finishing fourth on his team in points and third in goals. He was drafted by the Pats in the fourth round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

Carter Haney - Team Manitoba

Haney, 15, is currently playing for the RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg U17 team where he has produced eight points (5G-3A) in nine games. The Winnipeg, Man. product recorded 90 points (42G-48A) in 34 games in 2022-23 with the Winnipeg Bruins Brown U15 AAA team, finishing third in the Winnipeg AAA U15 league in points and assists while fifth in goals. The right-shot forward was drafted by the Pats in the sixth round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft.

Scheduled to be held October 18-22, the 2023 WHL Cup will be played exclusively at the Peavey Mart Centrium - home of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels. The tournament will feature teams from the four Western Canadian provinces competing in a round-robin tournament format followed by playoffs.

The 2023 WHL Cup will showcase the top 2008-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. All 22 players selected in the first round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft will compete at the event.

The 2023 WHL Cup represents the first tournament presented by FPS Payment.
