Oil Kings Sign Forward Luke Powell

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed 2007-born forward Luke Powell to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, the team announced today.

Powell, 15, is a local Edmonton and was the Oil Kings fourth-round selections, 75th overall, at the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.

This past season, he finished top 20 in the CSSHL's U17 Prep league's scoring race after putting up 41 points (19G, 22A) in 32 regular season games with the Northern Alberta Xtreme.

In the CSSHL post-season, he added six points (3G, 3A) in five games helping his team capture the U17 CSSHL Championship.

"We are excited to officially welcome Luke as a member of the organization," said Oil Kings Director of Scouting Michael Chan. "Luke brings a strong offensive skillset to the table, we have seen a number of positive signs of growth in his game throughout this season culminating in his contribution towards a championship with NAX's U17 program. We look forward to him continuing that trajectory and being a part of it."

Prior to this season, he played his minor hockey with the South Side Athletic Club.

"The Oil Kings organization would also like to thank the coaching staffs of local programs Northern Alberta Xtreme and South Side Athletic Club for being pieces in Luke's growth and development thus far," added Chan.

The Oil Kings are excited the welcome Luke and the entire Powell family to the Oil Kings family.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is their final home game of the 2022-23 season when they take on the Calgary Hitmen this Saturday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m.
