Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have signed 2007-born defenceman Jager Gugyelka (pronounced: Jay-gur Goo-gel-kah) to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, the team announced today.
"We would like to officially welcome Jager to the Oil Kings," said Oil Kings Director of Scouting Michael Chan. "Jager is a competitive young player who plays a committed game at both ends of the ice."
Gugyelka, 16, was drafted by the Oil Kings in the 10th round, 219th overall, at the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.
This season, the Coaldale, AB product is playing with the U18 AAA Lethbridge Hurricanes where he has appeared in 29 games and has put up 30 points (5G, 25A) to lead all AEHL defencemen in scoring.
"He has been able to earn the trust of his coaches at the U18 level as a 15-year-old with good offensive decision making and a sound defensive game," added Chan. "We look forward to his continued progress as part of our organization going forward."
The 6-foot, 185-pound defenceman is expected to make his Oil Kings debut this weekend.
