March 12, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

The Edmonton Oil Kings are on the cusp of clinching their first ever playoff berth in modern franchise history, and the chase for the final playoff spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference will go right down to the final weekend of the regular season.

The Oil Kings have a home-and-home series with the Red Deer Rebels, while the Prince Albert Raiders will have a home-and-home with the Saskatoon Blades.

Here is the scenario: Right now the Oil Kings are two points up on the Raiders for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Edmonton sits with 67 points (29-32-4-5), while Prince Albert has 65 points (30-35-4-1). A combination of a Prince Albert loss and an Oil Kings point in the next two games will clinch the Oil Kings first ever playoff spot in modern franchise history.
