Oil Kings Get Ready To Ring In The New Year With a Bang
December 29, 2007 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
We hope you had a Merry Christmas and we're going to do our best to make sure you're going to have a Happy New Year. The Edmonton Oil Kings are proud to unveil a loaded promotional schedule to go along with some great hockey action that will make sure you start 2008 with a bang.
December 30th vs Prince Albert - Retro Jersey Night
The Edmonton Oil Kings are a new team in the WHL but they're a franchise with a rich history and winning reputation dating back to their Memorial Cup winning days of the 60's. Toyota is proud to sponsor our throwback jersey night. The current style of Oil Kings jersey is a close replica to the 1966 Memorial Cup winning team. The third jersey that will debut this night will be reminiscent of the era in the late 1950's.
December 31st vs Brandon - New Year's Eve Family Party
Ring in the New Year with royalty. The Edmonton Oil Kings have bumped up their start time to 6 p.m. for this game so you can still make it to any New Year's Eve party you may have planned. There'll be some fireworks at the game and if you're headed downtown for the City of Edmonton's big bash, you can just hop on the LRT.
January 2nd vs Medicine Hat - Oil Kings First Annual Baby Races
The Oil Kings are striving for a young, family oriented fan base. We're going to start them young this night as we invite some baby contestants who will crawl their way to the finish line for some great prizes. This one should be a crowd pleaser for sure.
January 6th vs Calgary - Slapshot Sunday/Silver Collection
Our Silver Collection returns for every Sunday Oil Kings home game. Get your ticket to the game and then make a donation at the door with all proceeds going to the Edmonton Schools Hot Lunch Program through E4C. Kids will also have a chance to go out on the ice with some Oil Kings after the game and take shots on net.
January 18th vs Calgary - Faith and Family Night
This game will cater to youth groups and church groups of all denominations. Former Edmonton Roadrunner and Oilers prospect J.J. Hunter has teamed up with some of his very talented family members to form 'The Hunters', a Christian rock group that will perform after the game. There'll also be some post game motivational speeches from J.J. and Oil Kings' assistant coach Rocky Thompson. Group tickets start at $14 per person.
January 22nd,23rd - CHL/NHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Skills Competition and All-Star Game
All eyes in the entire hockey world will be on Rexall Place for the CHL Top Prospects game and skills competition. The top 40 draft eligible players in the CHL will face off in what will be the best assembly of talent for the under-19 age group outside the World Junior Hockey Championship. This is a 'make-it-or-break-it' game for some 18 year old hockey players who want to climb the depth charts of NHL scouts everywhere. This game always features high profile celbrity coaches and we've got some big name Oiler Alumni that'll be behind the bench.
January 26th and 27th vs Portland & Medicine Hat - Minor Hockey & Ringette Weekend
Our first Minor Hockey & Ringette Weekend was a huge success. Besides opening night, the Minor Hockey Night and Minor Ringette nights were our 2 biggest crowds of the year. The first 25 teams booking a group of 20 or more will have the opportunity to take a team photo on Rexall Ice before the game! Group tickets are just $14 per person.
