Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Kelowna, BC - The Edmonton Oil Kings saw their six-game point streak come to an end on Friday night falling 4-3 to the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place.
The Oil Kings roared out to yet another first period lead as Adam Jecho scored twice and added an assist to send the visitors to the first intermission with a 3-0 lead.
Jecho's first goal came just ahead of the midway mark of the first period on an Edmonton power play after Ty Nash hit him with a perfect backdoor feed that he was able to tap in for his 10th of the season.
Just under four minutes later, Jecho turned on the red light again as he settled a pinballing puck in the neutral zone, walked over the blueline and scorched a shot over the left arm of Jari Kykkanen.
With 3:46 left in the period, Skyler Bruce snagged his 12th goal of the season after he took a centering pass from Jecho between the hash-marks, spun to his forehand and elevated a shot past the glove of Kykkanen.
A power play filled second period saw the Rockets get on the board as they outshot the Oil Kings 16-6 in the middle stanza.
Luke Schelter got the lone goal of the period as he tipped in an Andrew Cristall shot with 4:15 left in the period on a Kelowna power play.
In the third period, the Rockets would score three times to come all the way back for a 4-3 win.
Landon Cowper got the Rockets to within one just 3:30 into the third period as he found a seam with a shot from the left-wing corner.
Gabriel Szturc knotted the game at three with 8:13 left in the game as he rifled in a one-timer from just inside the Edmonton blueline.
Schelter then completed the comeback at the 13:04 mark with his second of the night after picking the top corner from the left circle.
Kolby Hay finished the night making 39 saves while Kykkanen and Jake Pilon combined for 18. Edmonton went 1-for-3 on the power play, Kelowna was 1-for-4.
