New Year, Same Grind

Hope you've all recovered from our NYE party last weekend because game day is upon us once again!

The second half of the season is underway and the trade deadline (Jan. 10) rapidly approaches as we get down to the business end of the 23-24 campaign. The Hawks bring a three-game winning streak (plus victories in eight of their last nine outings) into tonight's tilt against U.S. Division rival Everett. Portland's offense has led the way lately with six or more goals in seven of their last eight wins, and Nick Avakyan's first WHL shutout highlighted last weekend's win over Vancouver to close out 2023.

Two-Horse Race

All but one of Portland's eight recent wins have come against U.S. Division competition as the Hawks continue to rack up points against key competitors. But no points may be more valuable than those that come against the Silvertips, who seem poised to be Portland's greatest challenge for the division title. Wenatchee remains dangerous as well, but as the Wild continue to sell off talentedpieces to restock their WHL Draft coffer, their spot amidst the top teams in the U.S. seems wobbly at best.

The Winterhawks and Silvertips have played five times this year, with Portland taking the win in four of those. The high-flying trio of Gabe Klassen (11 pts), James Stefan (9 pts) and Josh Davies (8 pts) have enjoyed their games against Everett this season and will once again look to lead the attack on home ice tonight. Meanwhile, Teague Patton's hat-trick on Nov. 24 highlighted Everett's lone win of the season series, and NHL draft picks Austin Roest (5 pts) and Ben Hemmerling (4 pts) continue to put up points for the gang in green.

Weekend At Home

Tonight's contest continues a four-game homestand which wraps up tomorrow night with a heavyweight bout against Prince George. It's Portland's third Friday/Saturday combo on home ice this year, and the Hawks have been perfect through the first two.

Tomorrow night also features the return of Where's Waldo Night, our second annual attempt at breaking the world record for "most people dressed as Waldo," currently set at 4,626! We've got the expected crowd to hit that mark, now we just need everyone to dress up! Click here for more details.
