Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have claimed 2002-born defenceman Tom Cadieux off WHL waivers, the team announced today.

Cadieux, 20, is a Saskatoon, SK product that appeared in 11 games and recorded three assists, 13 penalty minutes and a -4 plus/minus rating this season with the Vancouver Giants.

"With our open 20-year-old spots we thought it was important to bring in a veteran defenceman who has had experience in the WHL," said Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill. "Tom has over 170 games played in the WHL and will help provide minutes and guidance to our younger group of defenceman. We look forward to welcoming him to our group this weekend."

The 6-foot-1, 177-pound defenceman is in his fifth year in the WHL having suited up for the Giants, Regina Pats and Tri-City Americans. In 179 career games he has amassed 33 points (6G, 27A) and 96 penalty minutes.

He was originally selected in the second round, 34th overall, by the Americans at the 2017 WHL Draft.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is the 15th annual The Brick Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Global Edmonton, on Saturday at 7:00 P.M. against the Red Deer Rebels.
