Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired 2004-born forward Nathan Pilling and a 2025 third-round draft pick from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for 2002-born defenceman Logan Dowhaniuk, the team announced today.

Pilling, 18, is a Calgary, AB product and has appeared in 23 games with the Warriors this season tallying 10 points (7G, 3A), 12 penalty minutes and a -4 plus/minus rating.

"We are excited to add Nathan to our group of young forwards," said Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kirt Hill. "He is a big forward who moves well and can play in all situations. He has great touch around the net and plays a solid 200-foot game with strong hockey sense.

"He can play both center and wing which makes him very adaptable at where you can use him in your lineup. We look forward to Nathan joining our group and bringing leadership with his maturity as a person."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward was signed to a WHL Standard Player Agreement in 2021 by the Warriors and has played 77 career WHL games amassing 24 points (12G, 12A), 31 penalty minutes and a -1 plus/minus rating.

He is the grandson of former Oil King Gregg Pilling, who played with the organization from 1962-64 and was a member of the Oil Kings team that won the 1963 Memorial Cup.

The organization is excited to welcome Nathan and the Pilling family into the Oil Kings family.

Dowhaniuk, 20, was in his fifth season with the Oil Kings after being selected by the club in the second round, 26th overall, of the 2017 WHL Draft.

"Logan has been a part of the Oil Kings for the better part of 6 years and we can't thank him enough for his contributions both on and off the ice," added Hill. "We watched Logan grow not only as player but a person over the course of his career here in Edmonton and he was a big part of the defence core that helped us capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup last season.

"He will be missed by the staff and his peers, but we wish him all the best on his chase to capture another league title in Moose Jaw."

The Sherwood Park, AB native appeared in 208 career games with the organization and has registered 83 points (17G, 66A) to go along with 144 penalty minutes and a +36 plus/minus rating.

During last season's championship run, he put up 11 points (3G, 8A) in 19 games and scored one of the biggest goals of the Oil Kings post-season when he fired home the game-winning goal with just four seconds left in Game 4 of the WHL Championship Series to give the Oil Kings a 3-1 series lead.

He holds a share of the franchise record for the most points in a single-game with six after registering two goals and four assists in game against the Red Deer Rebels on April 2, 2021. The total also serves as the franchise record for the most points in a single-game by a defenceman.

The Oil Kings thank Logan for his tireless commitment to the organization and community during his remarkable career in Edmonton.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is the 15th annual The Brick Teddy Bear Toss, presented by Global Edmonton, on Saturday at 7:00 P.M. against the Red Deer Rebels.
