Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club prepare to host the 26th annual Canadian Tire Toque & Teddy Toss on Friday, December 9th when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00pm at the ENMAX Centre.
The Hurricanes, who enter Friday's game having posted an 11-3-0-1 record in their last 15 games, will welcome the Tigers in the Teddy Toss game for the second time in the last three seasons. Last year, the 'Canes were downed 4-2 in the Teddy Toss game by the Brandon Wheat Kings in a game which saw Ty Nash score the Teddy Bear Toss goal.
Lethbridge has posted a 7-2-0-1 record in their last 10 Teddy Toss games dating back to 2010.
Every year, the Teddy Toss game helps support local charities in Lethbridge and surrounding area including the Chinook Regional Hospital, Lethbridge Family Services (Angel Tree for Kids), the Blood Tribe Police and Emergency Services, RCMP Victim Services, MyCityCare Shop of Wonders and many more.
"This year we are hoping for over 5,000 Teddy Bears and over 1,500 toques for our list of local charities," said Hurricanes Marketing and Community Liaison, Kathy Hong.
"This is always such an important game and the charities like the Blood Tribe Police and Chinook Regional Hospital really rely on this game to help them get through the next year. The ideal sized bear would also be between 12 to 14 inches in size."
The Teddy Toss game is a popular tradition near the Christmas season celebrated by every team in the Western Hockey League and other leagues in the sport. The Teddy Toss originated in 1993 at a Kamloops Blazers game while the Hurricanes began their tradition in 1995; this year also marks the 15th anniversary of the 'Canes record setting toss which included 21,905 bears.
Fans are encouraged to bring their stuffed animals and toques individually wrapped in plastic bags for health and sanitary purposes.
Only select tickets for Friday's game remain available. Individual tickets for the Canadian Tire Toque & Teddy Toss can be purchased at the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre, the Yates Memorial Theatre Ticket Centre, by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or online at www.lethbridgehurricanes.com.
