Ogden Raptors News Release

OGDEN, UT - The Pioneer League's first half schedule, in which the Ogden Raptors went 31-7, ended Thursday.

Friday night, the Raptors continued their roll like there was no difference.

Ogden scored six runs between the second and third and held off the Orem Owlz for a second-straight game, 9-5, to win the first game of the second half.

Zac Ching and Brandon Lewis homered, and Jeff Belge retired all four hitters he faced to earn his first professional win.

Orem went ahead in the second with a two-out solo home run, but an Andrew Shaps singled with one out and scored on a flare from Jeremy Arocho that kicked away from the right fielder for a double. Ramon Rodriguez then doubled to plate Arocho for a 2-1 lead.

In the third, Brandon Lewis opened with a bloop single and went to second on Ryan Ward's second hit of the game. With two out, Shaps lined a hit up the middle to score Lewis. Ching then stepped up and launched the first pitch he saw to left-center, a three-run blast for a 6-1 Raptors advantage.

Orem scored three runs and knocked out Ogden starter Alfredo Tavarez in the fifth, but Belge recorded a strikeout with a runner on second to end the inning.

The Raptors got one of those runs back right away, as Andy Pages walked and Shaps doubled him in in the home half of the fifth. In the sixth the Raptors pulled out to another five-run lead when Sam McWilliams tripled with two out and Lewis cleared the center-field fence for his sixth blast of the year.

Orem added their final run in the seventh as a runner tagged and scored from third base on a pop up caught in front of the first base dugout but with no one covering home plate.

The Raptors and Owlz finish their two-game set at Lindquist Field Saturday night at 7:00.
