Ogden Raptors News Release

GRAND JUNCTION, CO - Throughout the first half of 2019, the Ogden Raptors put together other-worldy dominance away from Lindquist Field.

In their first road game of the second half, however, lethargy and the Grand Junction Rockies were too much to overcome as the Raptors fell, 4-1, to drop to second place in the second half.

Ogden threatened almost every inning from the third through the eighth but could only plate a run when Ramon Rodriguez flipped a hit to right in the fifth, advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a Sam McWilliams single, and then scored when Brandon Lewis' line drive dropped into shallow left.

Before that, the Raptors had two on with one out in both the third and fourth but saw strikeouts end their chances. After Rodriguez scored in the fifth, the visitors loaded the bases with two out but came up empty in a chance to add more. Single runners were also left on base in the seventh and eighth after reaching with less than two outs.

Grand Junction, meanwhile, took advantage of the limited openings given by Raptors starter Kevin Malisheski.

A solo home run in the first started the scoring for the Rockies, and a one-out single and blast in the second extended their lead to three. They plated their final run in the third with a leadoff walk, stolen base and one-out double.

In the final five innings, Grand Junction put only two runners on base - a double in the fifth that Malisheski stranded, and a two-out single in the seventh where the runner was thrown out trying to turn the single into a double.

The Raptors look to bounce back against the Rockies in game two of the three-game series and seven-game homestand, scheduled for 6:40 PM Tuesday.
