Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

The Rockies handed Ogden their eighth loss of the season on Monday as they defeated the Raptors 4-1 at Suplizio Field.

Grand Junction bounced in front early with the long-ball as Christian Koss smacked his seventh home run of the season, an opposite-field solo blast that gave his team the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

In the second, the score turned to 3-0 as Owen Taylor touched 'em all for the first time in July and launched a 438-foot two-run missile over the right field wall to score Yolki Pena. The Rox tacked on another in three-straight frames as Koss tallied on his second RBI of the evening by scoring Eddy Diaz with a double.

After dealing 4.2 scoreless with a season-high nine strikeouts, Helcris Olivarez surrendered the Raptors' only run of the game in the fifth after allowing Ramon Rodriguez to score on Brandon Lewis's RBI single.

However, the Rockies' bullpen trio of Trysten Barlow, Jacob Kostyshock, and Gavin Hollowell permitted just three base runners through 4.1 innings of scoreless relief and struck out five to secure their team's 3-0 start to the second half.

Barlow earned the win for Grand Junction after working 1.2 innings and helping Olivarez finish the fifth while Gavin Hollowell whiffed two en route to his sixth save of the year.

Kevin Malisheski absorbed the loss thanks to four earned in five innings and just one run of offensive support.

In what will be his first start of the year, Blair Calvo will take the mound for the home team in game two while Jeronimo Castro makes his second start against the Rockies in as many appearances.
