Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves bounced back in a big way a night after being shut out, taking down the Bowie Baysox 8-3, snapping a four-game losing streak.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first against Bowie starter John Means. Luis Valdes singled with one out and was doubled home by Dominic Ficociello for a 1-0 lead. Mike Gerber followed with an opposite-field double, scoring Ficociello for a 2-0 advantage. Gabriel Quintana then singled home Gerber on a broken bat base hit to center to make it 3-0. With Grayson Greiner hitting and two outs, Quintana moved from first to third on a wild pitch and scored a second wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.
Erie extended its lead in the fifth. Valdes and Ficociello connected on back-to-back one-out singles. On the Ficociello hit, right fielder Garabez Rosa attempted to throw out Valdes going to third base. The errant throw went into the dugout, allowing Valdes to score and moving Ficociello to third. Gerber then lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Ficociello for a 6-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, the 'Wolves grew the lead against Bowie reliever Jason Garcia. With two outs, Kody Eaves singled to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games. Harold Castro singled Eaves into scoring position and Ross Kivett singled home Eaves for a 7-0 lead.
Erie starter Artie Lewicki breezed through 5.2 innings before running into trouble. He walked D.J. Stewart and gave up a single to Rosa before being lifted for reliever Ruben Alaniz . Alaniz served up a two-run double off the bat of Austin Wynns to make it 7-2.
Bowie added one in the seventh. With two outs, Sean Coyle doubled and scored on a Jay Gonzalez double making it 7-3.
The SeaWolves added a final run in the top of the ninth off of reliever Jefri Hernandez. Kivett led off with a double for his third hit of the day. He moved up to third on a Valdes groundout and scored on a Ficociello sacrifice fly to left, making it 8-3.
Sean Donatello and Jairo Labourt combined to retire the final six batters in order, finishing off the win.
Lewicki (3-2) earned the win allowing two runs on three hits with a walk while striking out a season-high seven.
Means (2-6) took the loss allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings.
