Trenton Thunder News Release
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies scored four runs over the final three innings, thanks in part to a pair of Thunder errors to take a 5-3 win on Wednesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
The Thunder rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh with a triple from Rashad Crawford, a double from Jorge Saez and a bunt single from Abiatal Avelino. With one run in and runners on first and third, Binghamton went to the bullpen and Mark Payton came through with a game-tying sacrifice fly to center and Mike Ford followed him with a go-ahead double.
However, Binghamton re-took the lead in the top of the eighth thanks in part to an error by Avelino and run-scoring singles from Matt Oberste and Kevin Kaczmarski. With a 4-3 advantage, the Ponies added another run in the top of the ninth following a Miguel Andujar error and an RBI single from Kevin Taylor.
Josh Rogers made the start for the Thunder and held Binghamton's offense down into the seventh inning. Rogers allowed three straight hits with two outs in the second inning and otherwise retired each of the first 15 men he faced. The left-hander allowed a single and a double to finish his outing in the seventh inning, surrendering a second run. Overall, Rogers allowed two runs on seven hits, no walks, and struck out two in 6.2 innings pitched.
Cody Carroll was tagged with the loss and Colten Brewer allowed an insurance run to cross, unearned, in the ninth inning for the Thunder.
Miguela Andujar added two more hits in the victory, bumping his hit streak to ten games. During that streak he's 18-for-36 with seven doubles and 11 RBI, in that time frame his batting average has raised from .243 to .293.
Your Thunder complete their homestand on Thursday night at 7pm against the Rumble Ponies. RHP Yefry Ramirez (6-1, 2.66) will start for the Thunder, RHP Blake Beaven (1-0, 2.70) will go for Binghamton. Thursday night is post-game fireworks presented by ARM & HAMMER set to music by one-hit wonders! It's also Thirsty Thursday!
