Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, Vancouver, BC) - When it came off the bat, the sellout crowd of 5,157 out at Scotiabank Field knew the Canadians had just watched RF Nick Baligod hit a grand slam to help Vancouver to an extra-inning 13-9 victory over the Everett Aquasox on Saturday night.
It might have been the most ugly / beautiful games of the summer with the Canadians never leading Saturday night until Baligod crushed his 2nd home run of the summer over the right field wall off of Everett reliever RHP Max Krakowiak to give the C's a hard fought victory.
Vancouver pitching struggled for the better part of the night as RHP Zack Breault allowed seven hits and issued a trio of walks over his four innings in his 13th start of the season. Canadians reliever LHP Alex Pepe ran into trouble early as well walking four in just his lone inning of work allowing three earned runs before the combination of RHP Travis Garrett and RHP Philip Brua settled the game down for Vancouver.
The night belonged to the offense as Vancouver pounded out 15 hits off of Aquasox pitching. CF Jon Jones enjoyed the first 4-for-4 night of his young professional career while C Garrett Maines went 3-for-4 with a home run and LF Steve McQuail busted out of a lengthy slump with a 3-for-4 night including a double.
But the final blow was the most memorable as RF Nick Baligod's only hit of the night helped the Canadians salvage this six-game homestand at 3-3 (.500).
