Boise Hawks News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - Ryan Cuneo homered and knocked in three runs, as the Boise Hawks ended a nine-game road losing streak with a key 7-3 victory over the Spokane Indians, before a sellout crowd of 6,823 fans at Avista Stadium.

The win for the Hawks was their first on the road since July 27 and pulled the team within a game of the Indians in the overall Northwest League standings.

Cuneo got Boise on the board in the first with an RBI double - the first lead the Hawks have had on the road since July 28. Brad Zapenas added his first professional homer, a two-run shot in the second, with Cuneo blasting a two-run home run in the third, giving the visitors a 5-0 lead.

Spokane would claw back, getting a Brett Nicholas two-run homer in the fourth and adding an unearned run in the fifth - but the duo of Jose Rosario and Joe Zeller handcuffed the Indians attack. Rosario struck out five in six innings for his team-leading fourth win, while the knuckleballer Zeller retired 9-of-10 to pick up his third save.

Pin-Chieh Chen had two doubles and an RBI, Willson Contreras had two hits, including his first homer of the year, with Wes Darvill and Mario Mercedes each logging two hits in the Boise win. Guillermo Pimentel had three hits in the loss for Spokane.

Boise heads to Yakima for three games beginning tomorrow night, with Austin Reed meeting Adam Kudryk at 6:35 p.m. (MT)
