(Volcanoes Stadium - Salem, OR) - Canadians LF Matt Newman smacked a two-run home run in the top of the 7th inning that scored 3B Andy Burns helping Vancouver to an 8-7 victory over Salem-Keizer on Sunday evening in front of 2,384 fans.

After scoring a lone run in the top of the 1st inning, Vancouver would plate four more runs in the top of the 2nd inning including a double off the bat of 2B Jon Berti, his 3rd of the summer, that scored 3B Andy Burns to help the C's to a 5-0 lead.

The Volcanoes would grab four runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when C Dan Burkhart hit his 9th double of the summer scoring RF Brett Krill to cut the Canadians lead to 5-4.

Vancouver would extend the lead in the top of the 5th inning with 2B Jon Berti hitting his second double of the game, once again cashing in 3B Andy Burns pushing the margin to 6-4.

LF Matt Newman hit his 2nd home run of the season in the top of the 7th inning with 3B Andy Burns on-base to help Vancouver to an 8-4 lead before the Volcanoes began to rally.

With a run in both the bottom of the 7th and 8th inning including a home run off the bat of 3B Garrett Buechele, the Volcanoes would score a run in the bottom of the 9th inning when DH Mike Murray grounded out to Canadians 2B Jon Berti, scoring CF Jesus Galindo to cut the Vancouver lead to one.

C's closer RHP Drew Permison would then induce a groundball off the bat of RF Brett Krill, but Vancouver SS Shane Opitz bobbled the ball allowing Krill to reach base. Permison held on getting C Dan Burkhart on a wicked slider to end the game with his first strikeout of the night preserving the 8-7 victory.

With the win, Vancouver improves to 10-16 (.385) on the second half of the NWL season and remain seven games back of the West Division leading Aquasox who topped Eugene 8-2 on Sunday night in Everett, WA.
