O'Connell named Plus Performer of the Month

Estero, FL - Florida Everblades defenseman Tim O'Connell has been named the ECHL's Reebok Hockey Plus Performer of the Month for the month of December, it was announced today by the league.
The 27-year-old O'Connell finished the month of December with a league high plus-13 rating. The 6-foot-4 defenseman was a plus-2 or higher in six of Florida's 13 games during December, including a team-high plus-4 on Dec. 4 in Florida's 5-1 win over Pee Dee. The Grand Forks, ND native is tied for third on the team in plus/minus with a plus-11 rating. O'Connell is tied for 15th among league defenseman with his 15 points (2g, 13a).
Last season, O'Connell split time between two ECHL clubs, notching four points (2g-2a) in 20 games with Florida and 22 points (8g-14a) in 39 games with Roanoke. He also skated in 12 games with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League notching five points (1g-4a).
Since beginning his professional career in 2001-02, O'Connell has 133 points (37g-96) in 314 regular season games and 13 points (4g-9a) in 34 playoff games. He has 70 points (19g-51a) in 143 regular season ECHL games and seven points (1g-6a) in 17 postseason ECHL games. In addition, O'Connell has picked up 11 points (3g-8a) in 57 regular season AHL games while also playing in four AHL playoff games. Prior to joining the professional ranks, O'Connell played four years at the University of North Dakota, scoring 17 points (1g-16a) in 115 games and winning a National Championship in 1997 and 2000.
O'Connell joins Damian Surma as Reebok Hockey Plus Performer of the Month award winners. Surma received the award in October, after posting a plus-9 rating in five games.
