Checkers use power play to down Lynx, 4-3

The Charlotte Checkers went 3-for-5 on the power play en route to a 4-3 defeat of the Augusta Lynx at Cricket Arena on Wednesday night in North Carolina.

Charlotte grabbed a 2-0 lead after two periods of play with a first period power play goal from Brian Escobedo at 13:13, followed by Ryan Cuthbert's second period even strength marker at 14:35. In the third, the Lynx made it a 2-1 game with an early power play goal of their own from Louis Goulet at 1:43, followed by an unassisted goal from Eric Johansson to tie the game at 5:48. But Charlotte's power play would mark twice more in the third period, opening up a 4-2 lead before Matt Dzieduszycki's late goal at 19:42 made it a 4-3 final.

Jason Saal stopped 36 shots in the loss for Augusta, while Kelly Guard made 20 saves for the Checkers to earn the win. The Lynx will head back home to face the Columbia Inferno on Friday night at 7:35 pm, with tickets available for that and all remaining Lynx home games through the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
