Oberste's Clutch Hit Gives Mets 6-4 Win over Crabs

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 25, 2015) - Matt Oberste glanced a two-out, two-run single off the glove of Mike Marjama in the ninth inning to break a tie and lift the St. Lucie Mets to a 6-4 win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Tuesday at Charlotte Sports Park.
With the victory the Mets took two of three in the series and completed their six-game road trip against Charlotte and Palm Beach with a 4-2 record.
After hitting into double plays in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings with the game tied 4-4, the Mets finally broke through in the ninth. Maikis De La Cruz and Phil Evans started the frame with a hit and a walk. Colton Plaia moved the runners up with a sac bunt, but Mike Franco struck Yeixon Ruiz out for the second out. Victor Cruzado patiently worked a walk to the load the bases and bring up Oberste. Oberste's liner to first just went off the top of Marjama's glove and died in right field for the go-ahead hit.
Robby Coles allowed back-to-back hits to start the bottom of the ninth but he recovered to strike out Justin Williams and Yoel Araujo. Kyle Regnault was brought on to face Braxton Lee in a lefty vs. lefty matchup and Regnault struck Lee out to end the game.
Coles got the win while Regnault notched his sixth save.
The Mets were no-hit by Chih-Wei Hu through the first four innings but they broke out for four runs in the fifth. Evans drew a walk with the bases loaded to force in a run and Colton Plaia singled in two more. Ruiz hit a sac fly to make it 4-0.
Jake Kuebler, making his first start for St. Lucie, quickly got the first two batters out in the bottom of the fifth but surrendered a double, walk, RBI single and two-run triple to Kean Wong to make it 4-3. Jimmy Duff came on and got a fly out to strand Wong at third.
Marjama greeted Duff with a leadoff homer in the sixth to tie the game 4-4.
The Mets ended up with 10 hits and eight walks in the game.
Cruzado, Oberste, Amed Rosario, De La Cruz and Plaia all had two hits.
Kuebler went 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs.
The Mets (65-62, 30-27) have Wednesday off. They return to Tradition Field on Thursday to start a six-game home stand. First pitch on Thursday vs. Palm Beach is set for 6:30 p.m.
