Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA - Jonathan Holder pitched a gem as the Tampa Yankees (29-30, 63-66) claimed a series victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays (23-34, 55-72-1) with a 5-1 win on Tuesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The former closer at Mississippi State tossed seven complete innings for the first time in his career. Holder (7-4) held the Blue Jays to one run on six hits, two walks and a hit batter, tallying five strikeouts in his ninth quality start of the season.

A two-run first provided early run support for the Yankee starter. Jorge Mateo walked, stole second and tagged to third on a fly out by Dan Fiorito. Mike Ford grounded a ball back to the mound and reached second as Mateo danced in between third and home and dove in safely at third, beating a pickle. Ericson Leonora followed with a two-run ground-rule double to left-center.

Dunedin scored its lone run in the third. Dickie Joe Thon singled, advanced on a groundout and scored on a two-out single by Christian Lopes, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Tampa answered in the home half. Fiorito walked and Ford doubled before Blue Jay starter Shane Dawson left the game with an apparent injury. RHP Brad Allen entered and walked Miguel Andujar, loading the bases. One out later, Jake Skole ripped a two-run single off the glove of L.B. Dantzler at first base and into right, giving the Yankees a 4-1 lead.

The T-Yanks added their final run off Allen in the fourth. Mateo singled and scored from first on a double off the base of the left field wall by Fiorito.

RHP Giovanny Gallegos closed the door for Tampa by tallying four strikeouts and retiring six of the seven batters he faced in two scoreless innings.

Dawson (2-2) allowed four runs on two hits in two innings, walking a pair while striking out two.

Andujar (1-for-3, 2 BB) is on a 15-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 21 consecutive games. Mateo (1-for-4, BB, 2 R, SB) has 10 steals with the T-Yanks and 81 total this year. Fiorito (2-for-4, 2B, BB, RBI, R) is batting .386 (17-for-44) in 13 games with Tampa.
