Hammerheads Outduel Miracle
August 25, 2015 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
(Fort Myers, August 25, 2015): - The Jupiter Hammerheads completed a three-game sweep of the Fort Myers Miracle by posting a 4-2 victory on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle jumped out on top first on a one-out RBI double by Logan Wade in the 2nd inning, and that lead held up until the 5th frame when the Hammerheads struck for three runs to take the lead for good. The big blow of the inning was a two-out, two-run double off the bat of Austin Dean.
Jason Kanzler's 8th homerun of the season, a solo shot with two outs in the bottom of that 5th inning brought the Miracle back to within a run at 3-2, but they could get no closer as Jupiter added an insurance run on an RBI fielder's choice in the 8th inning to account for the final two-run margin of victory.
LF Blake Barber had three hits to lead the Hammerheads' 10-hit attack, while Dean and Brian Anderson added two hits apiece. Logan Wade collected two hits to lead the Miracle.
Starting pitcher Ben Holmes tossed five innings, allowing three hits and two runs, to pick up the win for the Hammerheads, raising his record to 2-1. Miracle starter Luke Westphal suffered the loss despite pitching six strong innings for Fort Myers, allowing just two earned runs. Former Minnesota Twins' farmhand Chris Mazza tossed the final two innings for Jupiter, retiring all six batters that he faced, to earn the save, his 3rd of the season.
The Miracle will have Wednesday off, but the homestand will continue on Thursday night as the Bradenton Marauders come to town to open a three-game series. The first pitch that evening will be at 7:05 pm at Hammond Stadium.
