
Nuts Take Fourth Straight Win

STOCKTON, CA. - Penn Murfee posted a career-high in strikeouts to help propel the Modesto Nuts to a 7-3 win against the Stockton Ports on Friday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
Murfee (W, 4-2) was able to get out of a jam with a pair of runners in scoring position in the first inning by retiring seven in a row. After the first, only one Ports (41-43; 8-8) baserunner reached scoring position. Murfee struck a career-high nine batters including the final two he faced.
The Nuts' offense built their lead in the middle innings. Jake Scheiner and Jack Larsen singled home runs in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Jarred Kelenic smacked a solo home run in the fifth. He followed that up with a RBI double in the sixth. Larsen added his second hit in the sixth as well when he connected on a towering two-run homer.
Ports starter Xavier Altamirano (L, 3-5) worked 5.1 innings and allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking one.
