Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - A big fifth combined with a great start by Anthony Misiewicz sent the Modesto Nuts to a 10-1 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze on Sunday night at John Thurman Field in front of 4,876.
The Blaze (9-2; 46-35) knocked Nuts' (4-7; 30-51) starter Ryan Castellani (L, 4-7) out of the game in the sixth frame by sending ten to the plate and scoring five times. A one out walk scored on Jordan Cowan's RBI single. He finished 3-for-5. After a passed ball put Cowan in scoring position, Justin Seager tacked on another run with a RBI single of his own during a 2-for-4 night with a pair of RBI. Ryan Castellani walked Arby Fields with two outs which ended his night.
Yoely Bello entered out of the Nuts' bullpen and gave up a two-run single to Braden Bishop and a RBI knock to Gianfranco Wawoe.
Castellani struck out seven over 5.2 innings but surrendered six runs on eight hits with two walks.
Anthony Misiewicz (W, 5-6) worked seven frames to secure the Blaze' four-game sweep of the Nuts. He did not allow a run on just two singles, both from Josh Fuentes, with five strikeouts and one walk.
Fuentes finished 3-for-3 with three singles accounting for three of the Nuts' five hits.
The Nuts celebrate Independence Day with the opener of a four-game series against the San Jose Giants on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:25 p.m. Listen live online.
