Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes completed a four-game sweep of the Stockton Ports in front of their second straight sell-out crowd at LoanMart Field, using two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Stockton Ports by a final of 2-1.Sunday's crowd of 4,856 was still intact in the last of the ninth, when the Quakes offense produced their only runs of the game, with a pair of sacrifice flies. Trailing 1-0 and down to their final at-bat, Tim Locastro opened the ninth with his only hit of the night, a single to left against Stockton closer Carlos Navas. Matt Beaty followed with a single to right, sending Locastro to third base with the tying run. Ariel Sandoval delivered a sac fly to plate Locastro, tying the game at 1-1. Michael Ahmed then blooped a single to center, moving Beaty all the way to third with the winning run. After Ahmed moved to second base on defensive indifference, Navas (1-4) fell behind Mieses, 2-1 and eventually elected to intentionally put him on base. Joey Curletta followed with a pop-up to right field, but it was deep enough to bring Beaty home with the game-winner, as right fielder Seth Brown's throw wasn't even close. Rancho closer Jeff Malm (2-0) earned his second win of the series by tossing a perfect ninth inning. Quakes' starter Josh Sborz gave up just one run over his four innings of work, as Stockton catcher Iolana Akau brought home Brown with a sac fly in the second, giving the Ports an early 1-0 lead. After Sborz departed, Rancho reliever Felipe Gonzalez chipped in with four scoreless frames, keeping the Quakes within one run.Stockton starter Kyle Friedrichs was nearly untouchable on Sunday evening, as he scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings, settling for a no-decision.Rancho (7-4, 49-32) is now 17 games over .500 for the first time this year. The Quakes will look for a fifth straight win on Monday, as they head to San Bernardino for the first game of a four-game set against the 66ers. Andrew Sopko (8-1) will take on Alex Klonowski (6-7) in the series-opener, with game time set for 7:05pm.â=80-After the Quakes' eight-game road trip, Rancho returns to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, July 13th for a Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark.
