VISALIA, CA- Michael Perez laced a two-run single down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh to give Visalia (51-30, 5-6) a 4-3 win over the San Jose Giants (43-37, 4-7) on Sunday night at Recreation Ballpark to earn a series split.

Against RHP Jeff Soptic (0-3, 7.27) in the bottom of the seventh trailing 3-2, C Michael Perez hit a line drive that knicked off the leather of 1B Jonah Arenado and sliced down the right field line. CF Chuck Taylor and SS Domingo Leyba, who had both singled in front of Perez, came around to score and that was the eventual game winner as the Rawhide hung on 4-3.

The number three overall prospect in the Arizona organization according to MLB.com, LHP Alex Young made his California League debut and logged a quality start for Visalia against San Jose but did not factor in the decision. After Young hung three zeros to begin the ballgame the Rawhide offense came to life against RHP Jose Reyes, who likewise turned in a quality start. Taylor singled and Leyba tripled him home for a 1-0 lead and then 1B Marty Herum knocked in Leyba with an RBI groundout to make it 2-0 Visalia.

The lead didn't last long as 2B TJ Bennett caught a Young pitch and hammered it over the centerfield wall for a game tying two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning. For Bennett, who drove in all three of the runs for San Jose, it was his first home run this season in the California League.

In Young's final frame San Jose brought home the go-ahead run after a single and a walk by RF Dylan Davis and 3B Jose Vizcaino Jr. Bennett slapped a hard ground ball that trickled into centerfield and brought home Davis for a 3-2 lead.

Young pitched six innings and allowed three runs (earned) on seven hits, he walked one and struck out three.

Reyes, for San Jose, pitched six innings himself and allowed two runs (earned) on seven hits, he walked one and struck out six and did not factor into the decision either.

After LHP Gabriel Moya (3-0, 2.79) pitched a perfect seventh inning in relief of Young, Soptic entered and the Rawhide grabbed the lead.

LHP Gabe Speier threw a scoreless eighth inning and the Rawhide failed to cash in on any insurance runs and we headed to the ninth with a 4-3 Rawhide lead.

RHP Bud Jeter (SV: 13) entered and orchestrated a one, two, three ninth inning to earn his 13th save of the season, giving the win to Moya and ensuring a series split with San Jose.

Visalia heads to Lancaster to take on the Jethawks for four starting tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. from the Hangar and will send RHP Joel Payamps (2-1, 2.79) to the mound. Lancaster will send Akeem Bostick (0-1, 4.91) to the mound in the opener.
