Adelanto, CA. - Despite 13 hits, the Modesto Nuts fell 5-3 against the High Desert Mavericks at Heritage Field on Thursday night.
Wes Rogers smoked a solo homer in the first to put the Nuts (20-33) up early. The Mavs (33-21) came right back with a two-run shot by Jario Beras to retake the lead for good.
Overall the Nuts went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position while stranding ten baserunners. Forrest Wall made it interesting late with a two-out, two-run single in the eighth. In the ninth, the Nuts brought the tying run to the plate but Ryan Ledbetter (S, 3/3) slammed the door shut.
Parker French (L, 2-4) worked 6.2 inning for the Nuts allowing nine hits and five runs while striking out two and walking one.
Tyler Davis (W, 2-1) settled in after the first-inning home run. He worked 5.1 while allowing nine hits and striking out three without walking a batter.
Shane Hoelscher went 4-for-5 for Modesto. Wall had two hits including a double. Omar Carrizales went 2-for-5 with a double.
