
Nuts Offense Wakes up in 10-4 Win

San Jose, CA - Thanks to 16 hits and ten runs, the Modesto Nuts ended their five-game losing streak with a 10-4 win over the San Jose Giants on Thursday night at Excite Ballpark.
The offense started with five runs in the third inning against Giants (55-32) starter Carson Ragsdale (L, 5-4). The Nuts (44-43) recorded four straight hits to start the inning. Cesar Izutris Jr. singled home a run. Alberto Rodriguez doubled home a run and Noelvi Marte brought in a tally with an RBI groundout. James Parker and Andy Thomas each added RBI singles in the inning as well.
Ragsdale worked 5.1 innings allowing six runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Connor Phillips was able to fight through trouble in the first three innings stranding eight baserunners. He walked five batters and gave up two hits in those first three innings but surrendered only one RBI single in that span before tossing a perfect fourth inning with two strikeouts.
The Giants tried to start a comeback in the fifth with three runs against Juan Mercedes but Leon Hunter Jr. (W, 3-0) was able to slam the door shut down the stretch with three scoreless innings to finish the game off.
Eric Jones had three hits in the game. Izturis recorded two RBI. Alberto Rodriguez collected two hits in the game.
The win ends the Nuts' five-game losing streak overall and an eight-game skid in the season series with the Giants.
The Nuts go for their second straight win with game four of the six-game set on tap for Friday night at 6:30 pm in San Jose against the Giants.
