Bakersfield, CA. - Parker French was terrific in seven innings but the Modesto Nuts were no-hit in their 3-0 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze at Sam Lynn Ballpark on Friday night.
In his start for the Nuts (1-1; 27-45) French worked around three hits in the first two innings before settling in and not allowing another hit until the seventh. French allowed just three baserunners to reach scoring position while walking one and striking out three.
The Blaze (1-1; 38-34) broke the tie in the eighth when Tyler Matzek (L, 0-1) walked two before a RBI single by Gianfranco Wawoe. Matzek was relieved by Luis Niebla who surrendered a two-run single.
The Nuts offense was no-hit by three Blaze arms. Their only baserunner was in the fifth, a one-out walk to Dom Nunez. Osmer Morales started and retired the first 13 he faced before that walk. He worked five and struck out seven. Issac Sanchez and Jacob Zokan followed out of the bullpen and retired all 12 they faced in two innings a piece with seven strikeouts.
