Bakersfield Blaze News Release
On Friday, June 24, 2016, in front of 871 fans, three Bakersfield Blaze pitchers combined to no-hit the Modesto Nuts, 3-0.
The final lines for the three pitchers are as follows:
Osmer Morales: 5.0ip, 0r, 0er, 0h, 1bb, 7k Isaac Sanchez: 2.0ip, 0r, 0er, 0h, 0bb, 3k Jake Zokan (W, 3-0): 2.0ip, 0r, 0er, 0h, 0bb, 4k
The game was a pitchers' duel for seven and a half innings, as Parker French worked 7.0 scoreless innings for the Modesto Nuts.
In the 8th, the Blaze plated the only runs of the night. Justin Seager drew a leadoff walk, and Aaron Barbosa was called upon to pinch run. With one out, Drew Jackson worked a free pass as well, putting runners at first and second base for Gianfranco Wawoe.
Wawoe delivered. A groundball single into left scored Barbosa for a 1-0 lead.
With two outs in the inning, a passed ball advanced runners to second and third, and Jay Baum punctuated the inning with a two-run single for a 3-0 advantage.
The no-hitter is the first at Sam Lynn Ballpark for ANY team since 1991, and the first thrown by the HOME team in ballpark history, a rich tapestry that extends back to 1941.
