STOCKTON, CA - The Stockton Ports scored in five straight innings en route to a 6-4 victory over the San Jose Giants on Friday evening at Banner Island Ballpark. San Jose was unable to hold an early two-run lead as the Ports tied the game in the fifth before taking the lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Giants (39-32) suffered their second straight loss to open the second half.

C.J Hinojosa (2-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) hit his sixth homer of the season and drove in all four of San Jose's runs in the defeat. Cristian Paulino (3-for-4, 2 SB) added three singles and two stolen bases for the Giants.

Facing rehabbing Oakland A's pitcher Sean Manaea, San Jose jumped out early with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Ronnie Jebavy began the game with a single before stealing second. After a Steven Duggar groundout advanced Jebavy to third, Hinojosa stepped to the plate and blasted a 1-0 pitch over the fence in right center for a two-run home run.

Mark Reyes started on the mound for the Giants and began his night with three scoreless innings. Reyes worked around two singles over the opening three frames to maintain the 2-0 San Jose advantage. The Ports though would draw even with single tallies in the fourth and fifth innings against Reyes. In the bottom of the fourth, B.J. Boyd launched a solo home run to left to trim the Giants lead to 2-1. Reyes then walked three out of the next four hitters to load the bases with one out, but escaped further trouble when he struck out Seth Brown and induced Argenis Raga to fly out to right. Stockton though came back with another run an inning later. A leadoff single from James Harris and a one-out single from Boyd put runners on first and second. Joe Bennie then singled sharply into right plating Boyd with the tying run.

The Ports then took the lead with a two-run bottom of the sixth. Reyes walked Sandber Pimentel to start the inning before Mikey White struck out. Brown then bounced a single into right advancing Pimentel to third. On the play, Duggar attempted to throw out Pimentel at third, but the ball bounced off the runner and skipped into the San Jose dugout. The error allowed Pimentel to score the go-ahead run while Brown was awarded third. Raga then greeted new pitcher Jose Morel with a sacrifice fly to center plating Brown to make it 4-2 Stockton.

The Ports kept the pressure on with another run-scoring rally in the bottom of the seventh. Still facing Morel (1 2/3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO), Boyd singled with one out, stole second and scored when Bennie smacked a double off the center field fence. The RBI hit pushed the Stockton lead to 5-2.

In the bottom of the eighth with Pat Young (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) on the mound, a single and two walks loaded the bases with one out before Richie Martin hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2.

The Giants left at least one runner in scoring position in every inning from the fifth through the eighth before mounting a late rally in the top of the ninth. Paulino started the inning with a single before he was forced out at second on Robbie Garvey's fielder's choice grounder. Jebavy then walked to put runners on first and second. Duggar was up next and he grounded into a fielder's choice as Jebavy was forced out at second. Down to their last out, San Jose though received a clutch hit from Hinojosa as he grounded a single up the middle to score two runs cutting the Stockton lead to 6-4. The hit prompted a pitching change as Koby Gauna entered from the bullpen and he walked Chris Shaw on four pitches to put the potential tying run on base. Gauna though managed to escape as the next batter, Jonah Arenado, popped out to second to end the game.

Brett Graves (3-6) earned the win out of the Ports bullpen with five solid innings of long relief. Graves, who entered the game with two outs in the top of the fourth, allowed two runs (both earned) and six hits. He walked four and struck out three. Gauna notched his first save of the year.

Reyes (6-2) was charged with four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss. The left-hander walked four and matched a career-high with six strikeouts.
