Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers received a pair of three-hit performances and seven strong frames on the mound from starter Alex Klonowski on the way to a 7-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide at San Manuel Stadium on Friday. The victory evened the four-game series at one game apiece and moved the 66ers to .500 in the second half of the Cal League season after spending zero days at .500 in the first half.

Visalia opened the scoring in the top of the first against Klonowski (5-7) after he walked Colin Bray and Stryker Trahan singled. Domingo Leyba then lifted a sac fly to knock in Bray and give the Rawhide (47-25, 1-1) a 1-0 lead. It proved to be the lone run the visitors would get. Klonowski survived a 25 pitch first inning and finished with his season-best seven inning effort allowing the one run on five hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Tim Arakawa opened the bottom of the first for the Sixers with a sharp single to center. David Fletcher then doubled to right off Visalia southpaw starter Josh Taylor (2-7) scoring Arakawa and tying the game 1-1. The Sixers did their heavy damage in the second when Zach Houchins singled and moved to second on Zach Welz' walk. Fletcher then singled in Houchins to make it 2-1. It was the second of Fletcher's three hits (as well as a walk) on the night. Hutton Moyer then knocked in a pair of runs with a double down the right field line on a 0-2 pitch to make it 4-1. Wade Wass capped the inning with an RBI single making it 5-1.

The Sixers continued their scoring in the seventh against reliever Jency Solis. Taylor Ward was hit-by-pitch and scored on Houchins' double. Houchins finished the game 3-for-4. Ayendy Perez then smoked a triple to right make the score 7-1. Arakawa and Perez each had two hits in the game. The Inland Empire (24-48, 1-1) bullpen was impressive as well. Lefty Kevin Grendell got in a jam putting runners at second and third with no outs but struck out three consecutive batters to get out of the eighth unscathed. Righty Keynan Middleton struck out the side in the ninth inning to finish off the win. Inland Empire held Visalia to 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Michael Perez had two hits including a double for the Rawhide while Victor Reyes had a triple.

The series continues Saturday at 7:05pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO.
