Modesto Nuts News Release

San Jose, CA. - The Nuts could not slow down the Giants offense in a 15-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

The Giants (2-4; 36-40) scored multiple runs in all but two innings in the middle affair of the three-game series.

Devin Burke (L, 5-4) started for the Nuts (2-4, 25-51) and surrendered two runs in the first and a two-run homer to Chuckie Jones in the second. Things really unraveled in the third when the Nuts committed three errors on one play.

With two runners on, Ben Turner hit a check swing roller back to Burke who bobbled it for error number one. The righty tried to toss to third to try and get the runner there but the throw went down the line allowing Brian Ragira and Elliot Blair to score for error number two. The left fielder, Matt Wessinger, made an errant throw from left that allowed Turner to reach third for error number three. Turner scored on the ensuing Trevor Brown sac fly. Burke's line was closed after four innings, ten hits, nine runs, six earned, two walks and one strike out.

Lefty Matt Lujan (W, 1-0), a Lo-A All-Star, threw well in his California League debut allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four in five innings of work.

The rubber match of the three-game series will pit lefty Jayson Aquino for the Nuts against Giants righty, Joe Biagini. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:55 p.m.
