
Nuts Fall 8-1 in Series Opener

Adelanto, CA. - Cole Wiper led the assault against the Modesto Nuts offense on Wednesday night as the Nuts fell 8-1 against the High Desert Mavericks at Heritage Field.
Wiper (W, 5-1) shut the Nuts (20-32) down in his second straight start against Modesto. He worked seven innings and allowed just three infield singles while striking out five for the Mavs (32-21)
The Nuts avoided their second straight shutout when Dom Nunez cracked a RBI single in the ninth.
Yency Almonte (L, 4-4) allowed five runs, three earned in the first three inning before settling in a bit. Luke Tendler smacked a RBI double in the first before scoring on a two-out error. He also scored in the third on a passed ball. Michael De Leon ripped a second-inning two-run homer.
Almonte threw up zeros in the fourth, fifth and sixth before surrendering a two-out, two-run homer to Tendler in the seventh. Almonte struck out five, did not walk a man and allowed nine hits.
