Lancaster JetHawks News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The JetHawks jumped ahead in the first inning, scoring four runs before recording an out, and cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers on Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Johnny Sewald started the game with a double, the first of three hits on the game for the outfielder, and scored the first run of the game on a Ramon Laureano single. Brooks Marlow followed with a two-run triple before coming home on a Bryan Muniz groundball to give Lancaster (26-26) a 4-0 lead.
Rogelio Armenteros (3-1) pitched five solid innings for the JetHawks, allowing just one run on four hits and matching a season-high with six strikeouts.
The 66ers (18-35) scored their only run of the game on back-to-back two-out doubles by Jeff Boehm and Zach Houchins in the second inning.
Dean Deetz tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief as the tandem starter and reliever Jacob Dorris finished off the night with the final 1.1 innings out of the bullpen.
Jason Martin drove home a run with an RBI-infield single in the eighth inning to give Lancaster a 5-1 lead. Sewald doubled to lead off the ninth and later scored on a Laureano sacrifice-fly for the club's final run of the contest.
Martin and Marlow each recorded two hits on the night.
Justin Anderson (1-6) took the loss for Inland Empire. The starter allowed four runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
With their record even at 26-26, Lancaster can move above the .500-mark for the first time since April 17 (5-4) with a win on Thursday night against the 66ers. They send Trent Thornton (1-2) to the mound in the second game of the three game series against Jeremy Rhoades (1-5). First pitch is 7:05 p.m. from San Manuel Stadium.
