Nuts Avoid Sweep with Extra-Inning Triumph

SAN BERNARDINO, CA. - After coughing up a late lead, the Modesto Nuts avoided a sweep with a 6-4 win over the Inland Empire 66ers in a game that lasted ten innings at San Manuel Stadium.

Former member of the Nuts (45-57; 15-17) Gareth Morgan tied the game in the seventh inning with a three-run homer.

The Nuts came back to take the lead and win in the tenth inning against 66ers (37-64; 11-21) reliever Austin Warren (L, 2-7). Connor Kopach sacrificed Jack Larsen to third to start the tenth. Ariel Sandoval brought him home with a RBI fielder's choice. Johnny Adams added to the lead with a RBI single.

Matthew Wilrodt (S, 1/2) recorded a perfect bottom of the tenth. Nick Duron (W, 2-1) tossed two perfect innings out of the Nuts' 'pen with three strikeouts.

Austin Hutchison started the game for the Nuts and fought through five innings allowing just one run on a RBI groundout. Hutchison struck out seven but walked five.

The Nuts took their early lead against Travis Herrin. While the walked five, the Nuts took advantage in the second inning when Kevin Santa and Keegan McGovern each drove home a pair of runs with singles.
