Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY -- Chris Nowak lined a one-out walk-off home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the tenth inning, sending a jubilant Montgomery Biscuits (31-27) squad to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Carolina Mudcats (20-38).

Carolina dropped its seventh straight game while the Biscuits won their third straight to clinch a series win. Montgomery improved to 19-9 at Riverwalk Stadium in 2007.

The heroics for Nowak came two innings after he grounded an RBI single through the right side of the infield to give the Biscuits a 3-2 lead, completing a comeback from a 2-0 deficit.

But Mudcats first baseman Grant Psomas crushed his second solo home run of the game in the top of the ninth, extending the game into extra innings.

Brian Henderson (2-1), the fourth Biscuits pitcher of the game, recorded the final two outs of the top of the tenth to earn the victory.

For the bottom of the tenth, Carolina brought in its fourth pitcher, Mauro Zarate (0-1). Zarate set down John Jaso on a flyout to centerfield before becoming victimized by Nowak's second roundtripper of the season.

The triumph marked the Biscuits' second walk-off win of both the season and the series. The first came in the bottom of the ninth Saturday night when Jason Pridie sprayed a two-out RBI single into left field to give Montgomery a 4-3 victory.

Like that game, the Mudcats wasted an excellent performance from a starter. Gaby Hernandez fired six excellent innings on Monday night, allowing only four hits and striking out six. He departed with a 2-0 lead and a runner on second with none out in the bottom of the seventh, only to watch reliever Chris Mobley surrender the advantage on a Patrick Breen RBI triple and a sacrifice fly.

Biscuits starter James Houser, Jr., similarly pitched well in receiving a no-decision. Houser lasted six frames, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out seven.

The Biscuits look for a fourth consecutive win in the five-game series on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium. Lefthander Jon Barratt (0-3, 3.38) will try for his first win of the season for Montgomery, opposed by Carolina righthander James Russ (0-1, 5.40).
