Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns scored three times after an hour and thirty-five minute rain delay Monday afternoon, using another comeback to secure a 5-3 victory over the Mobile BayBears.

Jacksonville improved to 32-26 in the win while Mobile fell to 30-28. The Suns have won the first three games of the series, clinching a series victory.

The BayBears opened the scoring on Suns starter Joey Norrito in the second inning. Carlos Gonzalez recorded a leadoff triple and scored two batters later when Cesar Nicholas hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Mobile added two more runs in the third inning as Javier Brito singled home two runs with two out to open a 3-0 advantage.

Jacksonville chipped away at the deficit beginning in the fourth inning when A.J. Ellis doubled to the left-centerfield wall to score Xavier Paul and make it 3-1. Cory Dunlap tried to score from first base, but was thrown out at home plate to end the inning. The Suns added another run in the fifth inning as Wilkin Ruan led off with a triple and was later driven home by a Jimmy Rohan single to cut the score to 3-2.

As Justin Upton batted with one strike to lead off the sixth inning, heavy rain forced a rain delay that lasted an hour and thirty-five minutes.

Norrito did not return following the rain delay, finishing after five innings with three runs, one earned, on three hits. Wesley Wright picked up where Norrito left off, pitching two innings while allowing only one hit.

On the other side Mobile starter Esmerling Vasquez did not return after the rain, finishing after five innings while allowing two runs on five hits with three walks. Mobile reliever Matt Elliott entered the game in the sixth inning, and after putting the Suns down in order during the sixth ran into trouble in the seventh inning.

After a leadoff groundout, A.J. Ellis beat out an infield single. Wilkin Ruan next singled to right field, moving Ellis to third base. Jimmy Rohan next singled home Ellis to tie the game 3-3. John Lindsey next pinch hit and bounced a ball to shortstop that seemed to begin a double play. After the force out at second base, second baseman Emilio Bonifacio threw wildly past first base allowing Wilkin Ruan to score and making it 4-3 Suns.

Jacksonville added an insurance run in the eighth inning with a Cory Dunlap double off of the leftfield wall that scored Xavier Paul to end the scoring at 5-3.

Wesley Wright (3-2) picked up the relief win for Jacksonville while Matt Elliott (1-3) fell in the loss for Mobile. Jon Meloan (9) saved the game with a perfect two inning outing.
